The Climate KIC is not a funding programme per se. Climate-KIC brings together large and small companies, scientific institutions and universities, city authorities and other public bodies, start-ups, and students. With over 350 formal organisational partners from across 25 countries, the ClimateKIC works on innovation to mitigate climate change and to adapt to its unavoidable impacts.

In principal there are tworesearch and innovation activity areas that have Calls for proposals or ideas, where everyone (not members included) can also take part: are a relatively new concept designed to source and co-develop new solutions. Over the last three years Climate-KIC has been running events across global cities like Copenhagen, Hamilton, Sofia, Singapore, Malmo and Trondheim who are seeking new innovative ways to achieve their ambitious climate targets. is an ideator programme that helps innovators test, refine and confirm assumptions about their innovation ideas, so that they are suitably developed to be applied and implemented. |

The Pathfinder programme is designed to enable the collaboration of research and business stakeholders, and typically lasts between three to six months, with potential funding up to a maximum of €100,000. In Open Innovation Calls the dimensions vary according to the challenge and the different phase of implementation of the idea chosen. Funding is mostly awarded as prizes. |

Envisaged impact | The Climate-KIC’s vision is for a prosperous, inclusive, climate-resilient society founded on a net zero-carbon, circular economy. This is a new climate-conscious economy, where finance flows to green projects and activities, and where motivated people are empowered with the skills and capacity they need to take action. This can only be achieved through wholesale systemic change – change that encompasses not just the technical and material, but regulation, governance structures, values and mindsets. |
