LIFE
The LIFE Programme is the EU’s funding instrument for the environment and climate action and it plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of EU legislation and policies in those areas.
LIFE supports entities established in Europe of all sizes, and both private and public, including NGOs.
LIFE presents good synergies/complementarities to Horizon Europe projects, and gives the possibility of implementing those innovative solutions developed in the R&I programme.
The LIFE programme is divided in 4 sub-programmes:
Nature and Biodiversity
- Circular economy and quality of life
- Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation
- Clean Energy Transition
| Provides funding for | There are different types of projects supported by the LIFE programme from a strategic approach, like the Strategic Integrated Projects or the Strategic Nature Projects, to the Technical Assistance projects. All of them must be aligned with one of the four sub-programmes in LIFE |
| Funding dimension of projects | Different size depending on the type of action. In terms of duration, it depends on the sub-programme and type of action, the average is 4-5 years |
| Dimension of consortium | Depends on the type of action and the conditions of the calls. A difference compared to Cluster 6 projects is that in many cases a transnational consortium is not needed because the actions are going to be implemented at national, regional or local level. |
| Envisaged impact |
The expected impact is to transform the EU into a fair and prosperous society, with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy where there are no net emissions of greenhouse gases in 2050 and where economic growth is decoupled from resource use. To protect, conserve and enhance the EU's natural capital, and protect the health and well-being of citizens from environment and climate related risks and impacts. Contributions to:
