The EU Cancer Mission, together with Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, seeks to address the significant burden of cancer, which annually affects 2.7 million people and claims 1.3 million lives in Europe. By 2040, new cancer cases are projected to exceed 3.24 million if no action is taken. The Mission focuses on understanding cancer, prevention and early detection, improving diagnosis and treatment, and enhancing the quality of life for patients and their families.
The Cancer Mission brings together research, innovation and public health policies in ways that cannot be achieved through individual research activities and policy actions at EU, national, regional and local levels.
The Mission leverages European collaboration to advance research, early detection, and treatment optimization, aiming to reverse alarming cancer trends, supporting innovation and projects that address cancer control, prevention, and improved patient outcomes. The Mission’s work aligns with Europe's Beating Cancer Plan to combat the disease comprehensively.
