Algae Accelerator: Calling startups/SMEs and mentors!

The Algae Accelerator is a six-month mentorship programme designed to support startups and SMEs in the algae value chain to upscale their business strategies. The accelerator is also calling for experienced professionals from with various backgrounds to support participants. Apply by December 20!

The first call for the Algae Accelerator by AlagaePro BANOS, funded via Mission Ocean, is now open. The programme will take place between February and August of 2025.

This initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of startups and SMEs by connecting them with experienced mentors who provide targeted guidance to refine business strategies and navigate industry challenges. The program prioritizes bio-based innovations and offers access to international experts with deep practical knowledge in blue biotechnology and related fields.

The challenges addressed by the accelerator include:

Industry specific challenges:
- Large scale cultivation
- Sustainable packaging
- Quality standards
- AI-based solutions
Techno-economy challenges:
- Innovative technological solutions
- Environmental and sustainability challenges
Marketing challenges:
- Market growth
- Consumer acceptance
- Market studies
Business challenges:
- Economic attractiveness
- Scaling up

The programme is also recruiting seasoned business professionals to share their experience as mentors, including sustainability professionals, startup mentors, EU legislation experts, and others. The Algae Accelerator programme compensates mentors for their support with a contribution of €10,000.
