As of 2023, the CBE JU has supported a total of 161 projects. By developing innovative technologies, to use renewable ressources and replace non-renewable raw materials this partnership aims to create new economic opportunities.

During 2023, 22 projects were completed, 57 are still ongoing and 21 new projects were launched. The partnership offers four kinds of projects:
- Innovation actions - flagships build first-of-their-kind industrial-scale biorefineries
- Innovation actions demonstrate the technical and financial feasibility of new or improved bio-based processes
- Research and innovation actions develop and test new bio-based technologies and solutions
- Coordination and support actions tackle cross-cutting challenges of the bioeconomy including developing skills, identifying regulatory barriers and promoting user acceptance
All of these support various areas of research and innovation at different stages of development. The topics encompass the food and agriculture industry, the development of new polymers, plastics and packaging as well as new materials for textile, chemicals and construction.
