Upcoming events on climate adaptation - MIP4Adapt

Published on: 25/09/2025

The Mission Implementation Platform for Adaptation to Climate Change (MIP4Adapt) is highlighting a series of online events on different key themes of adaptation: Adaptation essentials, water resilience, and strengthening resilience.

The events will take place online in September to December 2025.

September: Adaptation essentials

Foundational topics on climate adaptation, setting the stage for effective action.

Financing Climate Adaptation: Perspectives from Private Financiers and the Insurance Sector

When: Tuesday September 30 - 10.00-11.30 CET

This webinar organised jointly between the Climate Adaptation Mission Implementation Platform (MIP4Adapt) and the Green Deal Projects Support Office (GD-SO) will bring together lessons and experiences from private actors, projects and European regions and local authorities on how to effectively engage the private and insurance sectors to invest in climate adaptation and nature restoration projects.

Climateurope2 Festival: Empowering society through climate services

When: Monday September 29-Wednesday October 1

Where: Belgrade, Serbia and online (in-person registrations closed)

Under the title “Empowering society through climate services” and hosted by the Center for the Promotion of Science, this edition offers a unique opportunity to foster collaboration and strengthen the climate services community in Eastern Europe. It will bring together experts, policymakers, and innovators to explore the design, use, quality, and standardization of climate services.

The programme features discussions on key topics such as agriculture, health, and the Mission Adaptation in the region. Throughout the Festival, there will be a strong artistic presence, including exhibitions and the winning project from our second Art+Science Call.

MountResilience CoP: Finding the right tools and solutions for adaptation in mountains

When: Tuesday September 30 - 14.00-15.30 CET

This session aims to present two digital knowledge platforms designed to support climate change adaptation in mountain areas: the MountResilience Solutions Database and the Adaptation at Altitude Solutions Portal.

The MountResilience Solutions Database, developed within the MountResilience project, focuses primarily on European mountain regions. It offers a user-friendly platform featuring a wide range of climate adaptation solutions and publications, with a particular emphasis on Nature-based Solutions (NBS).

The Adaptation at Altitude Solutions Portal showcases tried and tested climate adaptation solutions from mountain regions around the world. It allows users to explore where these solutions have been implemented and to learn more about successful adaptation strategies from different mountain communities.

Together, these knowledge platforms provide a collection of real-life examples that inspire action and help practitioners develop effective strategies to strengthen climate resilience in mountain regions.

October: Water resilience

Strategies and solutions to strengthen water resilience, with a focus on conservation, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable water use.

Water Resilience for Electricity Production: Risks and Solutions

When: Wednesday October 8 - 10.00-11.30 CET

This webinar is aimed at regional and local energy agencies, as well as public and private electricity producers. Climate change is increasing risks to electricity generation, as higher water temperatures and more frequent droughts reduce the availability of rivers, lakes, and seas for cooling. In extreme cases, this can force temporary shutdowns and threaten electricity supply.

Conserving and Restoring Water Ecosystems

When: Friday October 17 - 10.00-11.30 CET

In October 2024, the European Environmental Agency (EEA) published a report on Europe’s State of Water. Its key message is that Europe's water is under significant pressure, presenting serious challenges to water security, now and in the future. As such, Europe urgently needs to improve its resilience and ensure sustainable freshwater supplies for people and the environment.

The webinar aims to raise awareness and illustrate opportunities and inspiring examples of action taken to protect and restore aquatic ecosystems, achieve the zero-pollution ambition and adapt to water scarcity, drought and flood risks.

November: Adaptation essentials

Continuing with core topics on climate adaptation to build a solid base for long-term action.

Monitoring, evaluation and learning - RAST Step 6

When: Thursday November 6 - 10.00-11.30 CET

Effective adaptation planning depends on the ability to track progress, assess results and learn from experience. This event will focus on RAST Step 6 – Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), a key element of climate adaptation planning and action. The session is open to all members of the Mission Adaptation Community, particularly adaptation teams in regional and local authorities, and will provide practical insights into how monitoring frameworks are developed, tested, and applied across different governance levels.

How changing the behaviours of citizens can make climate adaptation more effective

When: Thursday November 13 - 13.30-15.00 CET

This session will explore how behavioural insights can be used to increase the effectiveness of adaptation measures, by influencing how people perceive risks, shift attitudes, make decisions, etc. It will feature examples from cities and regions that have applied behavioural research or specific methodologies to co-design and implement responsive and engagement actions, contributing to enhanced adaptation effectiveness.

Two Years of Community of Practice: Achievements and Road Ahead

When: Tuesday November 25 - 15.00-16.30 CET

This event will reflect on collective progress in climate adaptation so far and help shape the future of this growing Community of Practice. It will showcase tangible outcomes, highlight practices and policy insights, and share lessons learned through collaboration across different actors and geographies. Participants will have the opportunity to explore how to remain involved, brainstorm ideas for the future, and connect with peers working toward similar goals. Through practical examples, success stories and guided discussions, the event aims to inspire continued action and reinforce a sense of shared purpose in building climate resilience.

December: Strengthening resilience

Bridging Preparedness and Recovery: Linking risk preparedness with recovery efforts to reinforce long-term climate resilience

Early warning systems

When: Thursday December 4 - 10.00-11.30 CET

The event will explore strategies to proof energy systems against climate change. Through real-world examples, attendees will gain valuable insights into practices, innovative technologies, and policy approaches that ensure a secure and reliable energy infrastructure.

Addressing loss and damage

When: Tuesday December 9 - 15.00-16.30 CET

Climate change is driving more frequent and intense impacts across Europe, making risks harder than ever to predict and manage. Extreme events like floods, wildfires, and heat waves, along with slow-onset changes such as sea level rise and land degradation, can cause significant loss and damage. Loss and damage include both economic impacts, like damage to infrastructure and reduced crop yields, and non-economic impacts, such as loss of culture, ecosystems, and displacement. This online event will explore practical approaches and solutions to address loss and damage, focusing on how these challenges can be integrated into adaptation planning. Participants will hear from experts and practitioners who will share real-world examples and lessons learned from efforts to address loss and damage. A dedicated Q&A session will provide a space to ask questions, exchange ideas, challenges, and learnings.
