This paper examines the role and integration of Widening countries in EU Framework Programmes like FP7, Horizon 2020, and Horizon Europe. Using dynamic network analysis, it explores their participation in research and innovation collaborations across Europe. Findings highlight the dominance of major EU members in steering consortia, while Widening countries show increasing collaboration, reflecting EU inclusivity policies. However, Southeast European countries face challenges with varying participation levels. The study emphasizes the role of ‘bridge’ countries in knowledge exchange and notes that post-COVID-19, collaborations are influenced by geographic proximity and strategic interests. It provides insights into European research dynamics and policy implications.
