The Green Deal Industrial Plan

Published on: 08/02/2023

On 1 February, the Commission presented the Green Deal Industrial Plan, aimed at improving the competitiveness of the European zero-emission industry and supporting the rapid transition to climate neutrality.

The plan aims to provide a more favourable environment for increasing EU production capacity for the zero-emission technologies and products needed to meet Europe's ambitious climate goals.

Building on previous initiatives and the strengths of the EU single market, it aims to complement the objectives and activities under the European Green Deal and the REPowerEU plan, building on four pillars:

1) Predictable and simplified regulatory environment

2) Accelerating access to finance

3) Improving skills

4) Trade openness for resilient supply chains.

In this regard, Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of the European Commission, affirmed: “we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to show the way forward with speed, ambition and a sense of purpose to ensure EU industrial leadership in the fast-growing zero-emission technology sector. Europe is determined to lead the clean technology revolution. For our companies and citizens, this means turning skills into quality jobs and innovation into mass production, thanks to a simpler and faster regulatory framework. Better access to finance will allow our key clean technology industries to overgrow."
